Tony English

Tony English – Studio Sound Tutor (Acoustic Design)

Tony graduated from Alchemea in 1998, after which he quickly found himself sought after as much for his design skills as his engineering ability. This led him to form an umbrella company in 2001 to bring all of these diverse strands together, and to simplify his business card!

His company SlowGlass gives creative support to the music industry, and offers recording studio design and construction, acoustic treatment and studio furniture design, sleeve, print and web artwork as well as audio engineering and production.

In the last 10 years he has built over 50 rooms in and around London and most notably is responsible for refurbishing over 90% of Alchemea’s studios and furniture as you see it today, including designing, project managing and building our new East Wing, as well as producing much of our print advertising during this period.

Tony’s passion for classic recording and production techniques sees him continue to engineer and play guitar with reggae band Hassle who have supported the likes of Jah Shaka, Alton Ellis and The Wailers. Their warmly received 2009 debut album has been remastered and will be re-released in January 2011 along with its dub counterpart on the newly formed Slow Glass Sound label, Tony is also a co-founder of soon to be launched White Porcelain Records.

Down the years, he has clocked up in excess of 500 gigs, filling in all roles from front man to drummer in both original bands playing his material, to wedding bands and the proving ground of the torturous Workingmens Club circuit around his native Newcastle.

Tony has both experience and qualifications in Theatrical Stage Design and Construction, Photography, Graphic Design and is an award winning video director.
