Recording Techniques Weekend Course

Course Overview
This course aims to help you to make informed decisions regarding the right microphones and techniques for various recording situations. It will also help to get the best from your equipment and acoustic spaces and ultimately improve you recordings.

Why would this course benefit you and your creative process?
This course will help you to understand why achieving a good recording can not only greatly improve how your tracks sound, but save you time and effort when it comes to the mixing and mastering stages.

Whilst a good mix can help a bad recording and good mastering can help a poor mix, your end result will never sound as good as a track that was simply well recorded in the first place.

Mixing a good recording is far easier than trying to hammer a bad one into shape; everything sounds right from the beginning and so needs less EQ and Compression to get to “that sound”

What will I get from this course?

    Recording Course
  • An insight into the recording process of one of the worlds top audio engineers.
  • Detailed explanations about microphone types (dynamic, condenser, valve, ribbon etc...), polar patterns (omni, cardiod, fig of 8) , and how various stereo recording techniques will effect your recording.
  • You will witness a recording session with a full band. Marcel will experiment with the various microphones and techniques you discussed in class so you can hear the results and understand how he achieved them. You will then be able to take that knowledge and apply it to your own recording situations.
  • The opportunity to ask a leading sound engineer detailed questions about your own recording scenarios.
  • A comprehensive Alchemea course book which includes explanations and photos of microphone positioning.
