Darryn De La Soul - Freelance Live Sound Lecturer

Alchemea College of Audio Engineering

After Graduating from Alchemea in October 2000, I spent the first year of my career as a supervisor at the college.

In 2001 a new live music venue, 93 Feet East opened and I became the assistant engineer there, being taught the ropes of live engineering by Paul Epworth (producer of Futureheads, Bloc Party and Maximo Park to name a few). After 6 months I became head engineer. The venue had three rooms with three separate systems.

Towards the end of 2003 I went freelance and started touring. Artists I have toured with include several Domino artists (Juana Molina, Hood, Test Icicles) as well as doing Front of House for Hot Chip, Stateside Hombres, Root-id and various Rephlex artists including the Aphex Twin. I also started teaching and have taught at the University of North London, The Courtyard Drama School and Alchemea.

I am currently head engineer for Neighbourhood club on a freelance basis and am moving more towards production, having been head of production for various festivals (Faster Than Sound, Kings Cross Music Festival and Fertilizer Festival). I also work very closely with Lumin, an events company, and with PA company Funktion 1.
