DARREN CONNOR: Live Sound and Recording Engineer, Freelance Live Sound Lecturer

Darren has worked as a F.O.H. and monitor engineer with large acts like Van Morrison, Seal & Razorlight all over the UK, Europe and the U.S. He is also a Digidesign VENUE specialist and uses Pro Tools to records show when required.

Darren started his career at the late age of 25 in 2003 when he was lucky enough to fall into the role of In-House Sound Technician at Rock City in Nottingham where he got the bug big time for the live sound environment. After quickly learning the ropes on the job and getting chucked in a the deep end, he then went freelance and found himself getting consistent work and invaluable experience with a touring PA company called Entertainment Sound Specialists. From there he networked and used a lot of charm to make other contacts with other sound engineers, bands, PA companies and tour managers all already out on the road.

He has since been working with a variety of artists as a Front of House Engineer and Monitor Engineer such as:

  • Van Morrison
  • Trivium
  • Razorlight
  • Imogen Heap
  • 10cc
  • John Martyn
  • Nerina Pallot
  • Stiff Little Fingers
  • Seal (System tech on a Digidesign Venue)

amongst many others all over the UK, Europe and the U.S.

He recently completed a Pro Tools 210M Operators Course at Alchemea and now uses Pro Tools when recording live on the road and has recorded and mixed two live EP’s for different artists within a month of finishing the course.

Darren did attend a traditional Audio Engineering College but felt whilst it was better than starting with no knowledge at all, because it was focused exclusively on the studio side, it did not equip him for the different disciplines of Live Sound and he made quite a few mistakes along the road that could have been avoided with the right training, something that a dedicated Live Sound Course designed by professionals would have afforded.

To that aim he is looking forward to teaching at Alchemea and to helping our students have a smoother journey than he did.
