This 1-day advanced production course aims to help you take your Ableton track production to the next level. You will learn advanced techniques as well as power production tips and tricks that can help your music stand out from the crowd. This course also aims to speed up your creative workflow and help you to feel “at one” with Ableton Live. Audience This hands-on class is aimed at music producers, musicians and DJ’s wishing to learn Ableton Live’s advanced functions and relating production techniques. Whether you are an Ableton bedroom producer, industry professional or even an educator then you will find something in this course for you.

Prerequisites
This advanced course is designed to follow on from our Ableton Live 101: Production & Live Performance Essentials course. We therefore strongly recommend that you have taken the 101 before enrolling on the 301MP. If you wish to skip the Ableton 101 then please ensure you are proficient in the areas outlined in the 101 course outline. Students are also expected to have a good general understanding of music technology. If in any doubt then you may wish to consider taking our 1-Day Introduction to Music Technology course.

LESSON 1: INTRODUCTIONS AND COURSE AIMS.
Multi genre beat making and advanced drum programming, editing beats in arrange view, layering drums and using the right effects to process drums and percussion, EQing drums and adding correct dynamic effects (compression, gates etc), programming percussion, capturing MIDI recordings and overdubbing percussive elements.
LESSON 2: WARP AND GROOVE
Live 8’s Groove Pool, understanding and adding groove, groove and swing amounts, extracting grooves from audio loops, advanced warping in Live 8, warp modes and creative warping techniques.
LESSON 3: ADVANCED EDITING
Clip duplication, clip envelope and warp marker variations, arrange view audio editing, glitches, fixed grid options, re-sampling and consolidating audio from Arrange View to Session View
LESSON 4: CUSTOM DEVICES AND WORKING WITH REX LIBRARIES
Extracting audio selections to Impulse, making and saving custom Impulse Kits and Drum Racks, saving all custom device patches, using the Slice to MIDI function techniques and templates, working and with REX files in Live 8
LESSON 5: VOCALS
Recording flash vocals, creating your own samples by way of audio editing and re-sampling, understanding and using Vocoder, Live 8’s audio effects and Effect Racks, custom Effect Racks and Macro Controls, MIDI and Key mapping.
LESSON 6: CREATIVE USE OF AUDIO EFFECTS IN LIVE 8
Getting inside the Beat Repeat and Frequency Shifter effects devices. Erosion and Filter Delay. Using Corpus, advanced automation, multi lane automation in arrange view and editing automation efficiently.
LESSON 7: LIVE 8 SUITE INSTRUMENTS
Advanced MIDI routing and using Rewire (Operator, Anolog, Tension, Electric, Collision). Using Simpler and Sampler, understanding filters and using LFOs creatively, sound synthesis and creating your own custom bass, lead, drums and sound textures.
LESSON 8: COMPOSITION AND TRACK ARRANGEMENT
Examples of track arrangements and critical listening exercise, covering key styles and genres. What makes a track great and how should you build yours. Recording live arrangements, fixed grid options
LESSON 9: FINISHING YOUR TUNE
Mixing down your track in Live 8, dynamic effects, understanding and using side chain compression, gates and using the Multiband Compressor, mix-down techniques, understanding mix structure, groups, mix effects and mix EQ, Live’s EQ Eight device
LESSON 10: DIY MASTERING TECHNIQUES IN LIVE 8
Export and file format options. Mastering templates and techniques, mastering EQ, compression and using limiters to add punch and presence to your tracks, referencing tracks, using the Spectrum device and understanding Dithering, mastering dos and don’ts
LESSON 11: GETTING YOURSELF AND YOUR MUSIC OUT THERE
Listening session and discussion with student music (course results or students own online), making a name for yourself and getting into the music industry today
Certification
Alchemea are a Certified Ableton Live Training Centre. This should give you the confidence that our courses have been developed and will be delivered to a very high standard.
While Ableton itself does not not provide an official qualification you will receive a certificate of completion from Alchemea to show that you have attended this course.
