This 1-day advanced course aims to give you the skills and confidence to use Ableton to perform your music or DJ sets live. Ableton As well as learning to correctly set up and configure your equipment you will also learn performance power tips and tricks which will help you to drive your fans wild!
Audience
This hands-on class is aimed at musicians and DJ’s wishing to use Ableton to perform their tracks live.Whether you plan to live loop vocals and real instruments live on stage or drop phat beats at a rave,this course will put you firmly in control.

Prerequisites
This advanced course is designed to follow on from our Ableton Live 101: Production & LivePerformance Essentials course. We therefore strongly recommend that you have completed the101 before enrolling on the 301DJ. If you wish to skip the Ableton 101 then please ensure you areproficient in the areas outlined in the 101 course outline.

LESSON 1: INTRODUCTION AND AIMS
Why use Ableton for DJing and live performance, in class demo, industry overview.
LESSON 1: SETS AND TEMPLATES
Building DJ set templates, recommended effects patches, set layout, customising Session view, set zoom, colours and skins, MIDI Mapping controls for DJ sets, MIDI controller focus.
LESSON 3: ADVANCED WARPING
Advanced Warping techniques “getting it tight!” Warping entire tracks, tricks, tips, do’s and don’ts, Live’s Warping modes, building up the layers, Warping beats, Warping other sounds and using additional clips as DJ tools, efficient use of Live’s browser.
LESSON 4: LOOPS AND REGIONS
Setting Loops and mix points within tracks and clips, loop length tricks and tips, splitting up a track in Arrange View and consolidation into Session View, preparation for live performance, loop/clip organisation within a Live set.
LESSON 5: DJ EFFECTS
Sends, Returns and Inserts; knowing the difference and when to use them, stacking devices, making custom racks and saving custom presets, setting and using Macro Controls and midi mapping effects efficiently
LESSON 6: DJ MIXES IN LIVE 8
Sequencing DJ mixes in arrange view, adding effects, overdubs, layers and sound textures via additional clips, editing track arrangement to suit your mix, using loops and samples within a DJ mix, automating your effects devices Sends and Inserts in Arrange View efficiently.
LESSON 7: PRESENTING YOUR MIXES
Exporting DJ mixes, options and file formats, DIY mastering in Live, mastering EQ and compression, other tools for mix presentation (iTunes tagging, Mixcloud and Soundcloud)
LESSON 9: DJ EDITS AND MASH UPS
Warping anything, making edits and re-edits, breathing life into older tracks in Live, using acapellas and vocals to create remixes and mash up, Warping techniques and essential dos and don’ts.
LESSON 9: PERFORM
Midi mapping, controller set up and performance options, performance templates DJing Live with Ableton in Session View, set up, essential connections, general set workflow.
LESSON 10: MAKING IT
Final listening session, student mixes, course work and/or online mixes, getting out there, building a DJ profile, tips on getting yourself noticed and networking within today’s music industry.
Certification
Alchemea are a Certified Ableton Live Training Centre. This should give you the confidence that our courses have been developed and will be delivered to a very high standard. While Ableton itself does not not provide an official qualification you will receive a certificate of completion from Alchemea to show that you have attended this course.
